Therapy for Dating, Living Together & Building Commitment

Therapy for Dating, Living Together & Building Commitment

You care about each other and want to see where the relationship can go. You may be considering moving in, discussing marriage, or realizing that being together has brought up questions you haven’t answered.

What does commitment mean to each of you? How will you handle money, responsibilities, and time apart? Are you moving toward a future you both want?

At Couples Chat Therapy, I help individuals and partners clarify expectations, talk through differences, and make thoughtful decisions about their next steps.

Are you ready for the next step, but unsure what it means?

You may feel excited about the relationship and uneasy about parts of your future together. Therapy for dating, living together, and relationship preparation gives you space to address concerns like these:

  • One of you wants more commitment while the other feels uncertain or needs more time.
  • You avoid conversations about the future because you worry the answers may be different.
  • You are considering moving in together but haven’t discussed money, chores, privacy, or personal space.
  • You already live together, and the division of responsibilities is creating resentment.
  • You have different expectations about exclusivity, other partners, or what commitment involves.
  • Family opinions or expectations are influencing decisions you want to make together.
  • You want to discuss marriage, children, or long-term plans without the conversation becoming pressure to agree.
  • Experiences from past relationships make it difficult to know what to trust or do differently.

What have you agreed to, and what have you assumed?

You may use the same words and mean different things. “Living together” might mean a step toward marriage to one person and a way to explore compatibility to the other. “Time together” might mean shared activities to one partner and being in the same room to another.

Those differences deserve a conversation before they become expectations neither person remembers agreeing to.

Together, we will get specific about what you want, what you are willing to commit to, and where you need more understanding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at hello@coupleschattherapy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No. Relationship preparation can be useful while dating, considering a commitment, or already living together. We can discuss expectations, communication, boundaries, and future plans. Premarital therapy is also available if marriage is part of your goals.

Yes. We can explore why you want to share a home and what that step means to each of you. Therapy also gives you space to discuss money, household responsibilities, privacy, visitors, and time together before assumptions become sources of conflict.

We will take those differences seriously. Relationship therapy can help you understand each person’s wishes, uncertainty, and limits without pressure to give the answer the other person wants. From there, you can consider whether the future each of you wants is compatible.
